The Best Protection For Non-Combat Personnel

As the Great War has entered its slow attrition stage, more and more non-combatants started to risk an unexpected land invasion or boarding. In order to give its soldiers, businesses and citizens a unified and cheap means to protect themselves, the Federal government created a tender for such weapon.

The winning contender became the now-called Personal Defense Weapon. Its major advantages were: use of powerful cartridge that can penetrate basic armor, and simplicity of construction that made it relatively cheap to manufacture at decentralized small factories.

Unfortunately, the Personal Defense Weapon can not be rated as a Space-Grade Projectile Weapon as its simple construction does not contain any recoil dampeners, nor heat sinks, and its old-fashioned ammunition produces empty shells that get ejected after each shot.

But, being a modern weapon the PDW has an integrated suppressor that de-facto can be detached and exchanged to a number of alternative accessories. In addition to that modularity, PDW is also supplied with a standard Federal rail system that makes it compatible with most of sights and accessories on the market.

A Slim Gun That Goes Brrrrr

Having a small gun with a tight grip that can go Brrrrr was one of my aspirations for a long time. This particular design was conceived with the frontal grip and a short barrel as integral parts of the model pretty early on.

During the photo-bashing stage though I chose AR-15 as the prototype for the mechanism and the body. While looking great, this design choice has turned my aspirational Brrrrr into a modes, but powerful Brr – all because of the magazine size that got limited to 30 rounds max without looking silly.

Work on this firearm continued my tradition of making realistically plausible designs and even provided me with few parts that I have already transferred to another gun from the same manufacturer.

Another Piece of Good Practice

Currently this weapon is slowly going through production as I’m adding small details to it during my free time.

The Federal Personal Defense Weapon is the most recent firearm that I drew. It means that its initial design was mostly fleshed out compared to its siblings at the concept phase, and thereby was pretty straightforward to morph into a 3D model.

There are few changes that I’m considering right now to differentiate it further from the HBR from the same manufacturer:

The suppressed barrel can be significantly shortened to increase mobility of the user. Long optical sights feels like an overkill and should be replace by a smaller reflex scope. Lastly, short magazine with 30 rifle rounds could be replaced with a longer and slimmer magazine with pistol caliber rounds to make this weapon weigh less and prolong its sustained Brrrrr.
